QVS marks first year of specialist care on Sunshine Coast

As part of Sterling Group’s commitment to expanding access to specialist-led veterinary care across Australia and New Zealand, QVS Sunshine Coast is celebrating its first year of delivering world-class emergency and referral services to pets, families and veterinarians across the region.

June marked one year since QVS Sunshine Coast opened its doors and over the past 12 months, 4,000 pets, companions, and sporting and working animals, from across the region have been treated by the dedicated QVS team.

QVS Sunshine Coast is the only hospital in the region offering such an extensive range of specialist and emergency services, all under one roof, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Local patients from Caloundra, Bli Bli, and Noosa, to regional patients from places like Dalby, Cooroy, Gympie, and Rockhampton, have all benefited from the certainty that regardless of the time or complexity of the case, multidisciplinary high-quality care is always available.

In a region with a well-established veterinary network, QVS works alongside GP vets to provide advanced diagnostics, specialist knowledge, and critical care services to ensure patients no longer have to travel to receive the best clinical outcomes.

“As a specialist referral hospital, our goal from day one has been to provide Sunshine Coast pet owners with access to advanced specialist and emergency care without having to leave the region. With specialist surgical and internal medicine teams, plus 24/7 emergency and critical care, we provide access to comprehensive, multidisciplinary care under one roof. We're grateful for the warm welcome we've received across the Sunshine Coast and for the strong partnerships we've built with referring veterinarians. Their ongoing trust and collaboration have been integral to our first year and the care we've been able to provide for pets and families across the region."

The breadth of expertise available sets the hospital apart. Surgical procedures at QVS hospitals are performed by skilled specialist surgeons, providing a level of expertise gained through years of advanced training beyond the veterinary degree. Board-certified veterinary internists work alongside registrars and residents to diagnose and treat complex medical conditions, ensuring all patients have access to exceptional care under one roof.

In addition to complex surgical procedures and advanced internal medicine, the highly specialised services such as ophthalmology, dermatology, and neurology at QVS Sunshine Coast provide a level of care previously unavailable locally, significantly reducing the need for pets and their families to travel outside the region during critical times.

The hospital’s recognition as a VECCS Level II emergency and critical care facility further reflects a commitment to excellence, placing it among a select group of hospitals in the Southern Hemisphere that meet these rigorous international standards.

Replicating the success of existing QVS hospitals in North Lakes (established 2016) and Stafford (established 1982), the purpose-built Sunshine Coast facility is a state-of-the-art 1500m² hospital, designed to deliver advanced care at every level. It combines leading technology, including CT, ultrasound, and dedicated intensive care units, with world-class emergency veterinarians, specialist clinicians, nurses, and administrative teams who work collaboratively around-the-clock.

Beyond the hospital, the team has become active members of the Sunshine Coast community. Over the past year, QVS has participated in local events including the Buderim Pet Expo and is looking forward to Dogs Day Out in August, where connecting with local pet owners and families has been a rewarding part of establishing strong community relationships. The warm welcome from the community has played an important role in shaping the hospital’s first year and reinforcing its place as a trusted local provider.

Conveniently located in Warana, on Production Avenue, the hospital is centrally positioned and only a short drive for many Sunshine Coast families. At the same time, its reputation for advanced care has seen patients travel much further afield, including from regional and rural areas across Queensland, reflecting the growing demand for trusted specialised services.
